Renal disease dog not eating
My 16 yr old spayed female K9/English Cocker Spaniel has recently been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. The past few weeks have been rough trying to get her blood levels stabilized again through constant subQ and IV fluids. As of 4/17/22, her chemistry results read: SDMA 48 μg/dL, Creatinine 3.9 mg/dL, BUN 120 mg/dL, Phosphorus 10.6 mg/dL, with indications of suspected secondary mild pancreatitis with Amylase 2,381 U / L and Lipase 589 U / L. She has not eaten a full meal (\~600 kcal) in over two weeks. Her weight went from 21lbs. to 17lbs. within three weeks. I am an intern at a vet clinic so I have been communicating and consulting our vet but he is also unsure what to do at this point if she is not eating anything. We tried Hill's k/d canned food in beef stew, chicken stew, chicken pate, k/d+joint dry, Royal Canin renal support T canned, Purina NF canned, all of which she refuses to eat. I also tried the balanceit website to make homemade food that is correctly prepared to no avail. This includes chicken, rice, tapioca, spaghetti, ground turkey, ground beef, Welactin omega 3 oil, egg, and barley. The only food she seems interested in is "Dr. Harvey's Canine Health" food, but I am extremely skeptical given the lack of evidence backing their claims. I am concerned about her quality of life, however, other than not eating she is still active and alert. At this point, the last option seems to be placing an esophageal feeding tube, which makes me worried about sedation and if she will wake up after given her condition and age. She has pulled out the IV line every time I bring her in to the clinic, about 6-7 tries by all the technicians and vet there. I give her 150cc BID subQ as of 4/23/22, but I don't feel like it helps much. The only medications she is currently on are Benazepril 10mg 1/2 tab SID and Cerenia 24mg as needed for nausea. If anyone has any recommendations on what to feed her or advice about kidney disease it would be greatly appreciated.
edit: added weights.
