Seller sent wrong item and asked me not to collect it from pick up place

As title says. Seller noticed shortly after sending a package that they still had the item I purchased.

They’ve suggested I don’t pick it up from the parcel shop and it will be returned and I will be refunded. The up side being neither of us will be charged for return postage.

Is this correct or should I pick up the item and report an issue?
