What if "the Beckoning" is bullshit?

Remember the first Inquisition? The all-powerful elders at the time saw the writing on the wall and ordered their compliant Childer to sacrifice themselves while their sires escaped. The inevitable consequence: the Anarch revolt. The elders that were left might have taken a few lessons from that.

Fast forward 6 centuries... Cue the second Inquisition. Specifically the destruction of the Vienna chantry (which I would posit was an inside job, but let's leave that for now), as well as the SI's success in London and Berlin.

Were I an elder, I'd feel a bit twtichy... But I can't just order my Childer into the fray again... That didn't end so well last time. What if I just... lied? Said I was being mystically pulled away to fight the Jyhad - you guys just hold the fort while I'm gone? Let the SI burn a few young kindred revelling in their newfound freedom?

And when the dust has settled... The natural order can reassert itself.
