Regarding Recent Events

Hello! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day. I’m here to warn you all that there has been an outside group making great effort to damage this community by sending private messages to users containing sensitive personal information about other members of the community. These images contain sensitive and sometimes explicit information and it is not pleasant to read. The intent of these messages is to sow mistrust and anger from community member to community member and to make the community feel like an unsafe place full of people that do questionable things. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/MqLdzOB.png) is an example of what a member of this outside group is looking to accomplish.

As a result of this, we’d like to ask you all to be mindful of images you’re sent via PM. They are liable to contain information about users that was dug up in order to ruin their reputation, embarrass, or shame them. If you have concerns, feel free to message the moderators. We ask that you do not publicly call out or shame other members of the community. If they break the rules, they will be punished accordingly.

All that aside, I think it’s time to affirm some things that I wish we didn’t have to. The mod team does not care about the kinks or fetishes of the community members. Since that, in great part, is what these random private messages are about; we wanted to take a firm stance that we don’t care what you’re into behind closed doors. This community is supportive of people that have a lifestyle that is either sexual or asexual in nature, but we are not going to shame anyone for any particular way of going about things. *I am going to be clear, we have never banned someone based explicitly on their sexual interests.*

/r/waifuism is a community that, while having a strong set of rules and guidelines, still wants to see the humanity and embrace the human side of its members. We all have unique interests that someone else could target us for. Frankly, just by being here, many people think we’re strange anyway. Please tap into your empathy for other members of the community that just want to live happy lives, despite how they might lead their lives differently—especially behind closed doors. These are things people never wanted to become public and it’s very embarrassing to them. If the same happened to anyone else, it would hurt them too.
