Are there ways to modify treadle tie up patterns for fewer treadles?

So I got my very own floor loom (YAY!!) and the seller threw in a couple books including Anne Dixon’s Handweaver’s Pattern Directory. I’ve been looking through it and there are some patterns that call for 12+ treadles. Are there ways to modify these patterns for fewer treadles?

I’m not actually planning on getting into any of these patterns anytime soon, I’m just curious of it’s possible. My loom is a 4 shaft baby wolf with 6 treadles, but I know there’s a kit that adds 4 more.
