My venue upped their prices after I signed a contract and paid- is this even legal?

My fiancé and I live in LA. His family and most of our friends are based down here, but mine are in NorCal. I have strong family ties and memories in Lake Tahoe and my fiancé fell in love in with it. And as an added bonus, it was much cheaper than some of the similar mountain venues around LA.

Today, I received a message from the venues accountant telling me they were implementing a moderate price increase in the next 90 days. They didn’t tell me exactly how much, but they attached the prices for 2027/2028 - and I almost lost my mind! Some of the dishes are increasing by 30%. The kids plate is nearly DOUBLING! We invited children based on the low cost of the kids plate. They have a new mocktail bar which is great because so many of our guests drink sparingly or are sober- but it costs as much as a premium bar package per person! There’s no alcohol in it- not even alcohol substitutes- wtf am I paying for?!?

Our invitations already went out, so we can’t invite less people. I’ve signed contracts with almost all of the vendors, so I’m not sure if we can cut back there. We’re already cutting back on the rehearsal dinner to include more people since so many are coming into town. It’s a holiday weekend and we’re going to do a post wedding get together- but that might not be in the cards either.

For this price- we probably would’ve gotten married closer to home. It’s so disheartening that we’re asking people to travel so far and we now have to cheap out because the venue pulled a bait and switch. I looked at our contract and we are subject to “market pricing” so this is all legal- but it’s such terrible business practice!

Anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
