Cash Registry on Zola or don't mention registry? Getting conflicting advice
My fiance and I own a house together and have everything we need. We **really** don't want a bunch of house gifts. We already have most of the top items people ask for on their registries, and our house is too small to fit a bunch of random gifts.
We're considering setting up an online cash registry, but we've heard that this can come off as entitled. It can seem like we're expecting our guests to contribute something to our wedding. We *are* expecting guest to bring gifts because it's what people do at weddings, but I guess it's a faux pas to acknowledge this? We were told it's better to not set up a registry, and guests will understand this means we want cash.
I don't really understand the criticism because it seems like a better option than expecting guest to show up with envelopes on the wedding day. Managing gifts with an online cash registry seems much safer than watching a box full of money. We've had a few people mention they can't attend the wedding, but would still like to give us a gift. A cash registry seems like the best option for these people.
We certainly wouldn't call unnecessary attention to the registry. We would add a link to it on our wedding website. We would add a line like: "We are fortunate enough to have all the stuff we need (and then some!). A contribution to our honeymoon or house renovation fund instead of a physical gift is much appreciated."
So, is it okay to set up an online cash registry or should we not mention a registry at all?
