[SPOILER] Jimmi Simpson as a father in Westworld and Black Mirror

In Black Mirror's "USS Callister," Jimmi Simpson's character is devastated by the death of his child who HE KNOWS is a digital copy.

In Westworld, Jimmi Simpson's character (at this point played by Ed Harris, obviously, just bear with me here) kills his own child BELIEVING she's a copy of some kind.

The big tragedy is supposed to be that he then realizes he was wrong. But honestly, who the eff would ever want to witness something remotely resembling our child's death no matter how real it was or not, not to mention take part in it? (I, for instance, can't stand to see that scene in Callister, even though the kid is not mine and is also completely fictional.) Like, that really should not have been the hinge of his awareness one way or the other. Of course, this is to underscore how lost and twisted he's become. The much more human and normal reaction of a character who happens to be played by one of the same actors in a similar situation just serves to emphasize it even more.
