What is growling from the street gutter at me and my dog on our late night walk?

My dog and I go on fairly frequent late night walks around our neighborhood (suburban/woodland area, northeast US), and have been doing so for years. Never have experienced anything like this though. Any idea what it could be??

FYI- all growling in the video is coming from the gutter. My pup didn't make a peep!
