Children’s book set in a department store

I believe the main character was a little boy who lost his mom in a huge department store. The illustrations were kind of sketchy and watercolor-y (I think there was only one color actually used for shading—brown?) and the little boy wandered around the store looking for his mom holding onto the soft leather glove that he’d accidentally pulled off her hand when they got separated.
