Children’s book I read in 2010 about an old man and a boy.

The book was about a boy who communicates with a old man who lives in the woods. They communicated through letters and I think the boy gets hurt or sick and the old man takes him to his hut to take care of him.

The cover of the book had the old man on it wearing a black cloak.
