Why I Get Foam Tires

I've been using a powerchair since I was a kid and for as long as I've chosen my own chairs, I've always gotten foam-filled tires. Now I'm really grateful I did.

On my way home yesterday, I started to hear and feel a rhythmic bump while driving my chair. I looked around and did some maneuvers in case something was stuck in the chair but couldn't find anything, so I slowed down and continued home. A family member also couldn't find anything, so today I made a same-day appointment at my repair shop.

At first, the tech couldn't find the issue either, but just as he was about to start elevating the chair, he saw something in my left drive tire. He got some pliers and pulled out a two-inch nail! I wish I had a picture, but it looked impressive. It must have been lying in a crack in the street or something.

With air-filled tires, I probably would have gotten stuck, had to figure out a way to get home, and may have had to wait for the repair shop to get the right kind of wheels. Flat-free foam FTW!
