(Story) Tried to order some Canadian Club at a local bar

Thought I'd post this for entertainment purposes and possibly get an answer. For disclosure, I am in my 30's and been to a bar like twice in my life (both when I was 21.) Also don't know anything about whiskey. However, it's friday night and I got a flat tire on my way home from work right near a bar and had to wait over an hour for AAA so I thought why the hell not, I'll stick my head in get ONE drink and people watch while I wait until my car is ready.

The bar is in Sacramento, CA and is rodeo/country/American theme. I feel the need to add this for some reason. There are a few bartenders, all white, good looking people. I am white myself. I am a big fan of the tv show Mad Men. For those who don't know, the main character drinks Canadian Club like it's water, both at work and off. Given I am taking this whole situation for fun I want to try that brand because I have seen countless episodes of this character do it. I ask the woman bartender **"do you have any Canadian Club Whiskey?" She looks around and says **"hold on hun, let me check."** She goes up to another bartender who she is working with and asks him. He then comes up to me and says **"no man we don't got that whiskey, we aren't THAT ghetto. Look around. Also maybe it's time for you to stop drinking out of your grandpa's glass with that stuff."**

He said it in a half busting my balls but half serious way as well. I kinda gave him a blank stare and then when the female bartender came back to take my order I just said Jameson, rocks given that's the only other one I know off the top of my head.

Can you fine folks tell me why I might have gotten this reaction? Is there an inside scoop to Canadian Club that I am brutally unaware or, THANKS
