Could JRR Tolkien, with all his knowledge of Middle Earth, take Frodo's place and get the Ring to Mount Doom?

JRR Tolkien is transported into the shire at the beginning of the events of Fellowship. He takes the place of Frodo and must use his knowledge of Middle Earth to get the Ring to the fires of Mount Doom without succumbing to its corruptions.

Rules:

- He cannot give the ring to somebody else. He must remain the "Ring Bearer" for the duration. He can, however, lend it to somebody for short periods of no longer than 3 hours.

- He does not need to follow the events of Fellowship past the meeting with Gandalf in the Shire. From there, he may attend the Rivendell Council or skip it if he so chooses.

- He cannot change events of the story through "writer omnipotence." He can only work with what he already knows.

- He is gifted similar endurance to that of Frodo, including rugged Hobbit feet to make hiking easier.

Can he succeed in destroying the One Ring and defeating Sauron?
