1000 Swords v. 1000 Baseball Bats

I started thinking about hand to hand weapons and which ones would be deadliest in the hands of the untrained. What are the easiest to pick up and cause damage. So for this prompt lets we have 1000 totally average untrained men with swords (broad swords) vs. 1000 baseball bats. Assume the swords and bats are of similar length giving neither side a reach advantage in that respect.

Both sides are identical fitness, intelligence, and bravery except for the weapons. They have no skill in combat or with the weapons. Little ability to work together. It's basically swords v. bats and both sides know they need to kill, incapacitate, or force their opponents to surrender down to the last man. Effectively I want to know if untrained swordsmen have an advantage over untrained men using a bludgeon type weapon.

**R1**: 1000 Swords v. 1000 Bats.

**R2**: 1000 Swords v. 1000 Bats. Same people, just bloodlusted.

**R3**: 1000 Swords v. 1000 Bats except each man has medieval armor and a shield.

**R4**: 1000 Swords v. 1000 Bludgeon-esque weapon of your choice (Mace? Warhammer?).
