Why does the iOS widget keep reverting to the Indonesian bull race photo?

the Photo of the Day widget has shown the same “default” image of an Indonesian man racing two bulls through the mud for days now. sometimes it updates to the proper photo, but changes back within a few hours. deleting and reinstalling the app did not work.
