Election Results Interpretations - NYT WI Map
"*There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damned lies, and statistics*."
Here's the thing... This NYT data visualization is cool, accurate, and incredibly informative.
***However...***
People will make assumptions that are incorrect if they are ***not thinking critically about this data.***
It may seem like Wisconsin lurched significantly left. But this geographic visualization does not account for turnout. Less people voted in this election than in 2024. You would be ***very*** incorrect to assume that this is generalizable to other elections that include higher turnout.
I saw that same chart for the 2024 Presidential elections vs the 2020 Presidential election and again, the nuance *everyone* should know in context is that turnout was significantly lower in 2024 compared to 2020 and that the changes had more to do with who wasn't voting than any actual fundamental or seismic change in our American political system.
So please folks, think critically of any data you see.
