The Nevermore Door
*Ajax watched the door swing closed with barely a whisper. It was, he thought, a very well made door. He watched the deadbolt slide closed with a sense of finality. It would likely never open again. Oh well, he was no stranger to moving on.*
*The Library was quiet, but far from still. Mindseekers moved among the shelves, dusting and restocking them with texts organized according to a system only their Master knew. Fledgling Mindstealer Dragons placed vats of dimly glowing green brine containing various sized brains in receptacles evenly spaced between the shelves while their parents sorted directed them with bursts of psionic energy. Yet even with all this activity the sound level within the Library barely rose above a whisper.*
*That was likely due to the influence of its Caretaker. Like Ajax, Mindcarver had given up the divinity he had acquired by devouring a Fragment of Creation left behind by the creator of the Aonian Dragons, the overgod AO. Unlike Ajax, however, that seemed to have changed little about his power within his own domain.*
"You did remember to give up your godhood, right?"
*The closest Mindstealer Dragon, a venerable old mother of several broods, turned and hissed at him. Ajax simply raised a finger at her. He was no longer a god, but he was still much stronger than her.*
**I did.**
"I just ask because I can still feel your influence in every inch of stone and every beam of wood."
**This was my domain before my divinity. It remains so after.**
*Ajax sighed.*
"Lucky you. I'll be fortunate if RnA didn't give away my room."
*He glanced around.*
"You need a hand here?"
**I do not.**
"In that case..."
*Ajax rolled his shoulders and reached for the door.*
**One moment.**
*The handle changed beneath his fingers to a type commonly found in Council Lands.*
**This will get you close.**
"Thanks... for the ride. I guess I'll see you around."
**I suspect you will. Feel free to stop by for a tome or tea anytime.**
*Ajax opened the door and walked out into a small sea side village. Rolling his shoulders he made his way down to the seaside, letting his visage fall away with every step. By the time he reached the water he already towered over the buildings. Once he passed the last ship, he was large enough to hold it, a massive galleon, in the palm of his hand.*
*Reports would soon come in to EON, RnA, and Council officials of a massive Atriox sized dragon swimming towards RnA island.*
*Simultaneously a series of doors would appear in lands that had once hosted the Library, each one adorned with a notice indicating the Library was once again open for business.*
