Table / Work bench

Hey guys I’m looking at building a coffee table out of 6x6 and a work bench as well. The coffee table table will be 24”by 48” by 6” and be just 4 6x6 side by side. The work bench I want to cut the 6x6 in half to make 3x6 for the table top and 6x6 legs I don’t know too much about wood work, but how would you go about prepping these to make that work? Was looking at a jointer to clean each face before I did anything but I’m not sure if that is the proper tool to look at. Any help/ advice is appreciated, Thanks
