Question about the removal of shiny finish

I looked on the subreddit, but couldn’t find something that felt similar, so hope this is okay to post. We’re currently renovating an old farmhouse and have worked to keep the wooden structure looking as “untouched” as possible.

My dad, who is helping us during this renovation, for some reason forgot we had put hours into creating this look, and decided to put a sort of shiny finishing stain over a lot of the structure. I’m super disappointed, but since I can’t change the past I was wondering if any of the people on this subreddit could help me with figuring out how we can possibly fix this?

First slide is one of the beams after two coats of the varnish pictured in the second slide and the look we were going for. The third slide is what it looks like now, and the last slide is the finishing stain my dad used. This stain made everything a lot darker, but I’ve already mostly resigned myself to the fact of that being impossible to get rid of.

I’m afraid of the answer being us needing to sand or strip everything and redo it all again, but would really appreciate any possible tips or help!

The wood is some type of pine, according to our contractor.
