Walnut/Maple Finish Question
I’m making a simple picture frame using walnut inlaid with maple.
I found a YouTube video where a guy made one of these and have been following his technique.
One thing he did (and I copied) was to fill in any gaps between the maple inlay and the walnut by smearing wood glue (just the regular yellow stuff) along the inlay and then sand in it (when the glue was wet) so that the glue holds the sawdust in the gap, making it look perfect.
Fast forward to me doing that with 120 grit paper on my palm sander, and then just regular sanding with 220 grit paper. I then applied one coat of gloss Minax Poly wipe on finish.
I’m getting some discoloration/sheen difference on the wood (after one coat) and wanted some input on how to fix it it. It looks more obvious in the pictures than it does to the naked eye. I’m open to resanding this, or choosing a different finish method.
