Plasma weapon uses

I had an idea come to me. Plasma weaponry is extremely hard to make as plasma likes to dissipate so why would a civilization attempt to create it when there are better options?

My idea is that it is great against energy shielding disrupting the power of it and electrical systems around areas it hits. Plasma is super hot, free flowing material and contains an electric field. If you have seen Star Wars, you probably know of stun shots. That blue ring is actually very close to how plasma likes to act as the magnetic field forms a ring and eventually degrades shocking the nervis system. Scale this up and it takes out computer systems.

What other uses for plasma weapons do you see? On physical threats, it is less effective as ceramic is stupidly resistant to thermal shock.
