How do I insult the intelligence and character of 'Ancient Aliens' types but also literally have otherworldly meddlers with flying vessels at the dawn of history as a major setting element in a serious fantasy multiverse setting?
I promise this isn't a post to make fun of Battlestar Galactica. It'll never be too late to dunk on a show that got our feelings so tangled up then ended in a long, muffled fart, though. The one where Gaius Baltar is getting constant imaginary oral sex, not the one with Furby's grandpa/Alf's first wife, whatever that horrible bear thing was called.
Seriously, I was just thinking about how my definitely-not-aliens-just-advanced-humans otherworlders need things like the Nazca Lines to navigate without GPS with their stupid flying ships/flying islands with sails. How the fuck do I show my contempt for people who *actually believe* in the stuff I use for my fiction? Other than having them visit Earth, see the Nazca Lines, say something like "The fuck are those things? Looks like rock art by a creatively rich but technologically simple society. Imagine if our Waystones looked like those! I'd give myself a sky burial right then and there out of embarrassment!"? I don't want to make good and decent readers uncomfortable by being too confrontational, at the same time.
/uj I realize there are about a dozen other tropes that I could find problematic ideological angles to, if I'm going to insist on writing something in the sort of place with the sorts of people who solve problems with swords. I'm just *extremely amused* at how arrogantly I walked into this specific one.
