Is HPS a good metric to measure performance?

Yesterday, I healed a pug VOI normal run on my druid. I don't have much expierience healing and I know I wasn't playing great. However, we had basically no issues on any bosses. We downed terros, spiderman, council and Dathea first try. Now, I did die on Dathea because I messed up the knockback. Group still mamaged to kill it though so I thought ok no problem. Then I suddenly got kicked, no warning, and upon whisperimg the leader found out it was because I was doing less healing than the dk tank, and much less than the shaman healer.

So I have two questions for you guys.

1. Was the kick justified, even though I don't think I let any peeps die? Or was it just because I messed up and died on Dathea? Leader said the other bosses are healing intensive, so was he maybe genuienly worried?

2. How good of a metric is HPS/Healing done as a healer? My thoughts are that unlike a dps who can pretty much keep dps until boss is dead, and generally higher dps is just better, with healing it seems to be a bit more complicated. Once everybody is full, there is no more healing to be done. For expample if I put rejuv on a few people, which would heal them up gradually, but then the other healer just tops them up, now I do no healing and he will have a higher number on the metres. Is this something to consider or am I just making excuses?

See, while I am salty and sadmad that i got kicked, I would genuienly like to improve as a healer and would like to know if there is some sort of other metric, or if I should just focus on doing more HPS.

P.S. I honestly would not mind getting removed that much if he atleast whispered me before hand to explain what is up.
