Thoughts on a time skip to Wow2
In a few threads on here I have seen quite a few people talking about a whole new WoW, with a completely new reset version of the game world to start questing in.
If this was to be implemented how do you reckon the best way of doing it would be?
Personally I think the best way would be to have a huge time travel expansion where we experience awesome lore events, maybe some alternative futures (world where the scourge win). This would give the team time to rebuild a lot of zones. Then at the end of that expansion the bronze dragon-flight say we need to get dumped in the future for some contrived reason. It doesn't have to be very far, maybe something like 50 years so most of the old characters are still around, but old.
Doing it this way means we can keep old player characters, and have all the new players start in the future timeline. It would be like playing vanilla again. Legacy characters would be reset to level 1 in the new timeline, but with all their legacy stuff (riding ability, professions, achievements etc). You could even have a portal where you can go between the new and old world. New characters would start at level one, and need to level up to unlock things. You could even use chromie time if you wanted to level through an old expansion) The world could start of small without all the zones unlocked, and then more could be added through later expansions. (This won't be popular) but maybe even have flying be and old-world only thing at the start).
### A few problems with big time skip reset:
- Factions. I can't imagine all the allegiances will hold. We could even revert to that one big faction thing that a lot of people seem to want for some (weird) reason. Or even have individual allegiances kinda like booty bay vs the blood sail, where reputation with one, reduced it with another. So it could be Stormwind vs Zandalari empire. and you need to be at least friendly with the faction you want to quest for.
- Races. Will all the races still be around in 50 years? Won't the forsaken have decomposed by then? Does it make sense to keep them around? How would that work from a gameplay perspective
- abandoned plots. There are a few plots that should be wrapped up in the 50 years between now and then, would be a shame if some are not done in game.
### A few great things with the time skip reset:
- New Characters!. We can start following new interesting characters and old matured ones. Like young princess Jaina, Daughter of King Anduin and heir to Stormwind. A new Orc Warchief, maybe Thralls Son. Maybe even a new Guardian!
- Time travel back to look at events. We could check out stories from lives of characters. Could see through time travel quests how the world changed. Focusing on the interesting bits. Maybe even the deaths of some big lore peeps like Thrall and Khadgar.
- New cities! In 50 years, the Draenei may have actually bothered to set up a permanent city on Azeroth.
- New factions! Maybe the factions split up and change. It could be exciting to shake things up a bit.
What are your thoughts? How do you think a great reset should be implemented if at all?
Another thought I had is that a system like Chromie time could be used for old content. It could even work instead of new zones for expansions. Set chromie to level in expansion x , and the world is exactly like it was in expansion x.
