Returning to WoW, I hear it's more Solo friendly?

So I'm planning on returning to wow after 7 years. New character etc. I've been seeing a few posts saying it's getting more solo friendly now. Is that true? Can I also do most of the stuff with a duo and not have to worry about PUGs?

I'm looking at doing stuff like the story, wanting to do some BG's (WSG | AV ) and try this delve thing I've seen a few times as well as the follower dungeons.

Would now be a good time for all that? And if so, what class would you recommend for doing the above?

All excellent replies, thank you guys! Looks like I'm going to jump in for a bit then. Been a long time and the itch needs scratched. Sounds like there is a fair bit I can do with the better half!
