WoW: Legion New PC - I finally want to upgrade, can I cannibalize anything from my current potato?
Hey there r/wow,
First time PC builder here looking for some guidance and assistance. I've grown up using computers for school, work and of course gaming and I'd consider myself familiar with the basics components and their purposes, however, over the years I feel like my knowledge of the finer concepts has become exceedingly outdated. I can't seem to keep up with what's on top in regards to CPU/GPU, I never understood how to overclock your rig, ensuring appropriate compatibility among all of your purchased components, etc.
My primary goal is to build my very first custom gaming rig. However, to simplify the matter I hope, I'm almost exclusively interested in playing WoW (my 12 year addiction) on its best settings with consistently high FPS. Too long have I played it on a variety of potatoes, but no more!
I've been reading that WoW (being an MMO) is more CPU intensive rather than GPU intensive, and that WoW performs better with an Intel CPU + Nividia GPU, is this true?
Also, if there is anything that I can cannibalize from my current rig and still achieve high fidelity+frame rates in raids/cities/open world I would love to salvage it.
Here's my cringe-worthy potato:
Lenovo Desktop H415
(Upgraded) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5
(Upgraded) PSU: EVEGA SuperNOVA 750W Gold
CPU: AMD A6-3650 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.60 GHz
RAM: 6.00 GB
HDD: 1TB (non SSD - I do want an SSD though!)
Monitor: Samsung S23C200B 23" LED LCD Monitor 16:9 5 ms
Umm ... I'm not sure what else to list for reference. o_O
Help me, r/wow, you're my only hope!
Cheers :D
