save video to sdcard?

I just got a wyze cam v4. I was under the impression i would be able to save events to an sd card to avoid a subscription. well, it will save just a picture of an event, not a video. Am i doing something wrong, or is there a cheap camera out there that can detect motion and save it to a card? Or should i be looking at trail cameras?
