[Tech] Warning! Do not gift money to people out of your region.

Alright guys, I'm really hoping reddit can help me out here. This is my last resort, I have been on the phone with tech support about 7 times with this same problem, and it has been 6 months with no resolution. Here it goes: I live in the US. My friend on XBL has gifted me money using Xbox.com and directly putting money into my account. However he lives in Canada. Big mistake. My first obstacle was to even see the money he gifted me. I had to switch my xbox region setting to Canada, instead of US. With that done, I can now see the 50$ in Canadian dollars. Furthermore my xbox one store now reflects the CAD currency for game prices. All seems well. I then need to enter a profile address before I can make a purchase, so I entered a legitimate Canadian address I found on google maps. So that got me past that prompt. Here comes the big problem. I still cannot use this money on ANYTHING whether it be more or less than the actual cost of the game. This is because it asks for a debit card or credit card, or alternatively a pay pal account. Debit card numbers are different length in Canada so mine won't work, and my paypal account gets accepted, but always leads to an error message when trying to buy the game. Iv been a customer since the very first year of the original xbox. Customer support has failed me big time on this, two people actually hung up on me because they were so clueless. The others said there was nothing they could do, including refunding the money. Please let this be a warning at least to others.

Edit: I am making this post to help out others in the future. This is a real problem, whether you understand it or not. I have come to terms with my friends apparent waste of money. Customer support will not refund the money, so from my perspective, Microsoft has stolen money from someone. If I was gifted money and cannot touch it, and neither can the person who gifted it, the money is stuck in Microsofts pocket. The gifting process was made using a Microsoft feature, which should know what region I am in compared to the person gifting, and not allow it.
