Tips for making headphones work

I was playing modern warfare all day with my some friends and was using my headphones through my controller and it was working all day. When we took a break and I went back on my controller was almost dead but the headphones were still working mostly. Once I changed batteries however no one has been able to hear me. I can still hear them through them though. They're new batteries out of the box and its showing them as being full.
