How long did it take you to build up savings?

I'm a new YNAB user, and just entered my second month. I didn't have any funds left over in my categories because I needed those funds to cover unexpected January costs. I expect the same in February and the same in March. I am one pay check ahead (two weeks). So, I am curious: how long did it take you to build up extra funds in your sinking funds categories like home maintenance, car maintenance, and so on. I imagine it will take a year at this rate!
