[MM] The N64 games annoy me

I am trying my best not to make this an inflammatory post, but every time I try to play these games (I am currently going through Majora's Mask 3D), I get incredibly pissed. And there's no real problem with the games, except something subtle people would barely ever notice explicitly: these games love to waste your time.

And again, I am trying not to flame the games in general -- when they work, they are extremely fun, the aesthetics and the plots are classic and compelling and both of them have moments that will stick in my brain forever. It's just that every single time you fail a minigame, you have to go through five minutes of text to let you try again; when you wanna get a heart piece but fall down? Have to redo three rooms you know by heart by now; when you press a switch, they have to take their time showing you what happens every time you do it. And, of course, there's the problem of redoing a boss just to finish a sidequest. Each of these instances is minuscule but it all adds up to make you wanna cry if you fuck up more than once in a row.

The worst offender here, to me, is the Great Bay Temple if you're trying to get all the Stray Fairies. Unlike all the other temples, there are no real shortcuts in this one to help if you missed one -- you just have to go back, turn the dials back (which are, mechanically, just an on/off switch, but for The Aesthetic\^tm, they have to take five full minutes each time to turn back around) and then go to the room where you missed it.

I appreciate these games for what they are: classics that completely revolutionised their genre while also being compelling in their own right as free-form action-adventure games. But whenever I try to play them for more than a little bit, I get so frustrated I want to quit. Does anyone else relate? Even a little?
